Meaning of Wholistic

In English /həˈlɪs.tɪk/ or /hoʊlˈɪs.tɪk/ is written holistic. The meaning is dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone and not just a part, according to Cambridge dictionary.

We added w at the beginning of the word of holistic. Why?

When Aya learned reflexology from Mari Ogino sensei (= teacher) in 2011, who translated the book of Lynne Booth Vertical Reflexology into Japanese, she knew the definition of holistic by Japan Holistic Medical Society.

Then she also knew that holistic is derived from ancient Greek word "holos", which means whole or entire. The derivative words are whole, heal, health, holy etc.

The above is the background that we chose holistic and added w in front of the word.

Through Aya's practice and study for over 10 years, she does believe that human body is very complicated. Although we are living in high-tech era, we only know a small part of our bodies. We sometimes find the information is mistake and changed. Our bodies are still mystery.

Our bodies are not so simple like machines. It's amazingly made very well and is able to adjust and address issues. Therefore it takes time until we realise the issues.

Human is different from other animals and can speak language, and the brain is developed. In addition, now there are wonderful techniques which we couldn't imagine 10 years ago. As the result, our lifestyle is changed as well.

In order to improve shoulder or back pain/ache/discomfort or pain/ache/discomfort in musculo-skeletal system after injury or disease, if we treat only the area of pain/ache/discomfort, the problem will be fixed? The answer would be NO for most of the cases.

We believe that we should see the balance of external and internal sides of the body.

For instance, your shoulder problem might come from your foot which you've never think that is the cause.

Your lower back ache might be caused by internal organs. And vice versa.

If so, you have to take care of your organs more.

Mental matters, psychological stress, emotion and thinking patterns can influence both internal and external bodies.

Even though we spend time same as usual and take same actions, we can get shoulder ache/pain/discomfort or headache etc. Conversely, if you are busier, do harder exercises, or are under more physical stress, you would be prone to get some issues such as pain, ache, discomfort, injury etc. But you may not get any issues.

Then she usually finds that there were other issues associated with mental matters.

As you can see ancient Chinese five elements, emotion and thinking patterns can also influence internal organs.

Everything is connected.

We shouldn't see and treat only the part of issue.

Unexpected cause and area might be the real cause.

If you decide "This is the cause!" or "This is the way to treat!", you may lose the opportunities to become better or improve.

We want you to see and think your body more holistically.

That's why we decided to use the word of wholistic.
